Luzia Postma is a self-taught, award winning, international artist. She has been creating art since she was a young child, painting on old brown paper grocery bags. Growing up on a dairy farm in Alberta surrounded by animals and the great outdoors, she had ample artistic inspirations. Much to the amusement of her large family, she was always observing different colors and patterns of the animals and countryside around her. Throughout her youth she practised painting, becoming better with every brushstroke. When she finished high school, she pursued a different dream into emergency services as a full-time primary care paramedic. However, her true passion never faded and eventually Luzia left her career to focus on art full-time. This has given her the freedom to dive deeper into making realism art, focusing primarily on sceneries, animals, and portraits using acrylic and graphite. She now lives on a small farm in central Alberta with her husband, Howie.
Even at the tiny age of 8 years old, Luzia was already seeing texture and shading and fine detail, as can be seen in this paper bag pencil crayon bear cub.
Today Luzia maintains incredible discipline with the brush, observing painstaking detail with each stroke and a relentless drive to capture her subject with stunning realism.
Art and the relentless desire to create is the engine within Luzia. It's part of her DNA, her make up. Being true to her calling, Luzia has chosen to foresake safe conventional livelihoods and pursue her true passion. Emmersing herself in her art and a world of fine brush strokes, Luzia gives us artwork of incredible beauty.
